Ronaldinho quits Flamengo

The Brazilian playmaker, who had complained over unpaid wages, is no longer tied to the Rubro-Negro after being granted an injunction but the club will appeal against the decision

The Brazil international has long been involved in a tug-of-war with Flamengo, with reports suggesting that the 32-year-old has become disillusioned with life at the club after being insulted by Rubro-Negro fans during a match against Internacional.

Earlier on Thursday, Flamengo had quashed rumours suggesting that Ronaldinho had been released, but the former Barcelona ace decided to take legal action against the club.

Ronaldinho claims he is owed over €16 million in salaries, bonuses and image rights, and the Labour Court in Rio de Janeiro has ruled in favour of the player.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) is expected to acknowledge the court's decision before the end of the day, which will turn Ronaldinho into a free agent.

Flamengo vice-president Rafael de Piro confirmed that the club has been notified of the ruling and insisted that it will appeal against the decision.

Ronaldinho signed for Flamengo in 2011 in a deal worth €3m after spending three years at AC Milan.

Mexican TV channel offered Guardiola and Mourinho punditry roles for Euro 2012 - report

The coaching duo have been rivals in their respective positions with Barcelona and Real Madrid, but have been given a chance to share a studio with one another

Televisa reportedly presented Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola with the opportunity to work alongside one another as part of its coverage of Euro 2012.

According to El Confidencial, the pair were offered €1.5 million apiece to accept punditry roles with the Mexican multimedia company for this summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Guardiola, though, is rumoured to have already said no, as he intends to honour his promise to take a complete break from the game after parting company with Barcelona at the end of the season.

Mourinho, though, is believed to still be considering the offer. The Portuguese intends to play an active role in Real Madrid's player recruitment programme for next season but is understood to be open to the idea of making himself available to Televisa for some - but not all - of Euro 2012.

Televisa has previous when it comes to hiring big names to cover major international tournaments, having used Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane for their coverage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Questions raised over Buffon payments to bookmaker

The Juventus goalkeeper is said to have handed over 14 cheques worth a total value of €1.5 million to a Parma-based tobacconist and betting shop

The Guardia di Finanza has revealed that it has raised questions over payments made by Italycaptain Gianluigi Buffon to a bookmaker.

According to a document released by Italy's financial law enforcement agency, the Juventus goalkeeper made out 14 cheques to a Parma-based tobacconist, which also serves as a betting shop, over a nine-month spell. The report claimed that Buffon handed over approximately €1.5 million to the owner.

While gambling on sporting events is legal, Buffon, as a member of the Italian Football Federation, is forbidden from placing wagers on any games sanctioned by the FIGC, Fifa or Uefa.

However, it is not yet known whether any of the money was for gambling purposes, or if indeed the former Parma player's alleged bets were placed upon other sports, which he is entitled to do.

The Azzurri star's lawyer has stated that the cheques were merely "transfers designed to protect Buffon's personal assets."

The Guardia di Finanza checks, which are being carried out by the Turin Prosecutor, are not related to the Cremona-led enquiry into match-fixing that earlier this week resulted in Italy left-back Domenico Criscito having his room searched by police.

The news, though, comes in the wake of Buffon's criticism of the Italian press for what he believed was sensationalist coverage of the Scommessopoli scandal.

EURO 2012 : The Ones To Watch

The major contenders for Euro 2012 have named starting XIs full of tried and tested options – but a few youngsters are looking to make their mark on the competition. Here, we profile five of the most promising players under the age of 21.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, England

The Arsenal youngster seems to fit the bill as a classic wildcard – 18 years old, only one season of top-flight football under his belt, and uncapped until England’s 1-0 win over Norway at the weekend.

It’s highly unlikely that Oxlade-Chamberlain will start matches – there were question marks about his positional discipline in a couple of Arsenal’s big games this season, particularly the 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United, when he was substituted despite looking like Arsenal’s most dangerous player. That was under Arsene Wenger, a coach who gives his players freedom of movement – so under Roy Hodgson, a much stricter coach in positional terms, he will surely be an impact sub.

In 2011/12 he went on 1.6 dribbles per game, more than any other Arsenal player, and that ability to run with the ball and take on full-backs makes him an attractive option from the bench – England don’t have any other wingers that are quite so direct. And while he’s inevitably been cast as the new Theo Walcott, a tag he finds frustrating, Oxlade-Chamberlain has more variety to his game, and will come inside into the centre of the pitch and see more of the ball. Unlike Walcott in 2006, expect to see him on the pitch at some point.

Christian Eriksen, Denmark

Eriksen travelled to the 2010 World Cup, but was too young to have a significant impact. Now, with two years more experience for Ajax, he’s Denmark’s main man. He’s arguably the most important playmaker for his team in the competition – whereas other playmakers of similar ability have natural replacements in their respective squads, Eriksen is responsible for almost all of Denmark’s creativity, a tough ask for a 20-year-old.

But Eriksen has shown he’s able to perform outside the Eredivisie, which can be an unreliable barometer of a player’s quality. He did well throughout Ajax’s six games in this season’s Champions League, playing 3.0 key passes per game, a figure only beaten by two men – Danny of Zenit St Petersburg and Portugal (sadly absent from this tournament through injury) and Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil. With Lionel Messi, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery just behind Eriksen on this table, it’s clear he’s amongst the most creative players in Europe.

Zonal Marking Euro 2012 Focus: Ones to Watch

Denmark play a broadly similar style of football to Ajax – lots of width and good ball-playing ability at the back. The only concern is that too much of their play depends upon Eriksen, and in the 3-1 friendly defeat to Brazil at the weekend, he found himself spending much of the game tracking the opposition holding midfielder, and was never in space once Denmark won the ball. A little more positional freedom would be nice.

Alan Dzagoev, Russia

Venture a little further down that ‘key passes’ list from this season’s Champions League, past Messi, Robben, Ribery and Yoann Gourcuff (dropped from the French squad by Laurent Blanc) and you find Alan Dzagoev. He’s been touted as the ‘next big thing’ in Russian football for so long that it’s difficult to believe he’s still only 21 – but in his first major international tournament, now is his time to shine.

He’s likely to start on the opposite side of the pitch to Andrei Arshavin, with the two wide players given license to come inside and operate more centrally. That will suit Dzagoev, who is at his best when given something approaching a free role, and in a Russian midfield and attack that could feature five players from Zenit St Petersburg, CSKA’s Dzegoev is the odd one out, and will effectively be playing the role Danny plays at club level.

As well as being a great creative player, Dzagoev was Russia’s top scorer in qualifying with four goals, and he’ll be expected to chip in at this tournament. Regardless of whether Dick Advocaat goes for a sturdy target man (Roman Pavlyuchenko or Pavel Pogrebnyak) or the more mobile option in Alexander Kerzhakov, Russia’s striker will be told to create space and lay the ball off for Arshavin, Dzagoev and Roman Shirokov. In the weakest group, Dzegoev might emerge as a key player in this tournament.

Mario Gotze, Germany

As a double league winner with Borussia Dortmund, Gotze seems too established to be on this list – but at 19 years old, and the only teenager in a young Germany side, he’s well worthy of his place.

Jogi Low has been experimenting with different team shapes with a view to fitting Gotze into the side. In the 3-3 friendly draw with Ukraine earlier this year, he used both Gotze and Mesut Ozil behind the main forward in an adventurous 3-4-2-1 formation that looked good going forward, but caused problems at the back. At the weekend against Switzerland, Gotze was used notionally alongside Sami Khedira in the double pivot of a 4-2-3-1, although he inevitably pushed forward and made the side 4-1-4-1. Again, Germany scored three – though this time they conceded five, and it’s unlikely that Gotze will start there, considering Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos’ availability.

But Gotze’s able to fill any of the three attacking roles in a 4-2-3-1, and could push Thomas Muller for a start on the right – although he is more likely to be used as a substitute. He’s another fine dribbler – with 3.5 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga this season, only Franck Ribery, Ryan Babel and Gokhan Tore ran with the ball more frequently.

Nelson Oliveira, Portugal

This tournament might have come slightly too early for Oliveira, although his experience of coming off the bench for Benfica this season makes him a decent bet to do the same for Paolo Bento’s side here.

Portugal’s struggle for a reliable striker is well-known and the problem is often overstated, but while Helder Postiga and Hugo Almeida are essentially target men, Oliveira seems closer to the type of striker Portugal had ten years ago, with Pauleta and Nuno Gomes – good movement, clever link-up play and a more obvious goal threat.

Oliveira showed in his cameo appearances in 2011/12’s Champions League that he’s more of an all-rounder than Postiga, the man who is likely to start upfront. Whereas Postiga recorded a 70.2% pass completion rate for Real Zaragoza this season, Oliveira’s was 87.5%. He’s raw and untested at international level, but offers a completely different style of play to Portugal’s other strikers – because of that, like Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gotze, he’s likely to be used as an impact substitute at some point.

AC Milan to sell Robinho, Pato, Cassano or Boateng to hold on to Ibrahimovic & Thiago Silva

The Rossoneri could be forced to cash in on at least one of the four attackers to generate transfer funds without having to sell off Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva

Robinho and Alexandre Pato

AC Milan are ready to cash in on one of Kevin-Prince BoatengAntonio CassanoAlexandre Pato or Robinho in the summer transfer window in a bid to retain Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva

The Rossoneri need to offload several players ahead of the 2012-13 season to generate funds to finance their transfer campaign. Both Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva have attracted plenty of interest and their sale would boost the club's cash flow significantly, but the 2011 Serie A champions are desperate to keep hold of their two star players. As a result, they could be forced to let go of at least one of their other prized assets.

Although Boateng, Cassano, Pato and Robinho have all been important first-team members in the past two seasons, Milan see no other option but to sacrifice at least one of the aforementioned quartet, and are willing to listen to offers.

The 22-year-old Pato was close to joining Paris Saint-Germain in the winter transfer window, but the move eventually fell through.

However, PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti remains interested in bringing the Brazil international to the Ligue 1 runners-up, and could make another approach for Pato this summer.

Robinho, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to Santos. Although the Brazilian giants appear reluctant to pay a hefty transfer fee for the attacker and Milan unlikely to let him go on the cheap, the prospect of getting his wages off the books could convince the Rossoneri to part company with the former Manchester City forward regardless of the price.

Furthermore, Boateng, 25, has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, and the sale of the former Ghana international would generate the necessary funds for Milan.

There is no concrete interest for Cassano at this point, but the Rossoneri hope that a fine display at Euro 2012 will help the attacker catch the attention of some of Europe's bigger clubs.

Atletico Madrid president does not want to sell Falcao

The Rojiblancos president has said that the Colombian star is not available for sale, despite having earlier stated that he would listen to offers

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has been closely linked with a move to Chelsea as a replacement for Didier Drogba, but president Enrique Cerezo was keen to pour cold water on the reports

Los Rojiblancos owner Cerezo said he does not know of any interest in the Colombian striker, and believes this is not the right time to speculate on a potential summer transfer.

"Falcao still has four years to go on his contract with us. It's silly to say now if he's staying or if he's going," Cerezo told to Efe. "I really don't know anything about Falcao leaving, I just know that he signed a contract with us and that contract states he can stay with us in the next four seasons."

He also stated he is not sure of Falcao's value right now, despite previously admitting that he would listen to offers for his star man.

"I am sure Falcao is now highly rated on the market, but as we don't want to sell him, we really don't know how much how much that is," the former cinema producer said. "He does have a release clause in his contract, I guess that's his value, but, as I said before, he has four years to go before his contract expires."

Falcao scored 36 goals last season for Los Rojiblancos, including two against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final.

FRANCE'S Euro 2012 Squad

Laurent Blanc has finalised the France squad that will travel to Euro 2012, reducing his numbers to the Uefa-requisite 23 by cutting Yoann Gourcuff and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from his unit.

Initially the France boss had named a total of 27 players in his pre-selection panel, but Olympique de Marseille’s Loic Remy dropped out last week because of a thigh problem sustained at the tail end of the Ligue 1 season along with Tottenham centre-back Younes Kaboul, who is also stricken.

Speculation was rife as to the identities of the other two unfortunate men would be, but Gourcuff was always considered to be a likely player to drop out after a difficult campaign with Olympique Lyonnais. He was given the chance to impress in Sunday’s 3-2 friendly win over Iceland in Valenciennes, but clearly did not do enough in Blanc’s eyes to justify his selection.

Yanga-Mbiwa, meanwhile, was one of four centre-backs named in the initial squad, but the uncapped Montpellier player will not travel to Ukraine with the rest of the team, with his lack of experience probably a key factor in the coach’s decision making.

France meet Serbia on Thursday and then face Estonia on June 5 as their warm-up matches end. They will meet England, Sweden and co-hosts Ukraine in Group D of the competition proper.

Ivanovic: I know that Real Madrid want me

The Serbian defender affirmed that he knows about Los Blancos' interest in his services, but noted that he does not think about leaving the Blues after their continental success

Branislav Ivanovic has confirmed that he is on Real Madrid's wish list for the new season.

Spanish sources have claimed that Ivanovic is high on the list of targets of Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese coach looks to fine-tune his squad to give Madrid their 10th Champions League trophy.

The 28-year-old, who was a starter in Serbia's 2-0 defeat against Spain on Saturday, stated that he is aware of Los Blancos' interest, but stressed that he is happy with life at Stamford Bridge.

"I know what has been written about my future and that Madrid are following me, but now is not the time to talk about this," Ivanovic told Marca.

"I am focused on the national team now and I am very happy at Chelsea.

"I won the Champions League just one week ago and to think about changing clubs now is complicated. I am very happy in London."
Ivanovic, who missed the Champions League final through suspension, joined Chelsea from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 in a reported €12 million (£9m) deal.

Hazard to leave Lille for Chelsea

Eden Hazard has decided to join European champions Chelsea, the Lille playmaker said on his Twitter feed.

The 21-year-old is considered one of Europe's best young players, and he has already been given an emotional send-off from his current club Lille, with whom he won the Ligue 1 title in 2010-11.
And, after teasing fans for several days and saying he would reveal all on Monday afternoon, he finally made his decision, saying in French: "Something promised, something due - and I will join the champions of Europe."
He confirmed his decision in English in a subsequent Tweet.
Hazard had been mulling over offers from Manchester City,Manchester United and the Blues, with the West London side emerging as favourites after he reacted positively to their Champions League victory.
Before Chelsea's win Hazard had said he was interested in moving to one of the two Manchester clubs.
He is expected to cost around £25 million, plus wages of £170,000-a-week.
Hazard had said he would choose the team that guarantees him the most playing time in his favoured 'number 10' position.
He said last week: "I scored 20 league goals also had the most assists in the league (16), and I never believed I could possibly come up with such a fantastic set of statistics.
"Certainly I could not have made such a decisive contribution had the coach at Lille not changed my position.
"It is all down to that. I have always dreamed of playing the No 10 role, and wearing that number on my back, and you can see what a difference it makes from how many goals I have scored and set up for others. That will be a consideration when I decide on my club. Where I will play will influence my thinking on who I should join."

Match Fixing Scandal In Italy; ...Again!

Following the Calciopoli Scandal, it seems the Italians haven't quite learn't their lesson

Stefano Mauri, Lazio Captain,... Arrested!

Lazio captain Stefano Mauri and several other top Serie A players were arrested on Monday as part of an investigation into the so-called Calcioscommesse sports betting scandal.

Lazio Midfielder Stefano Mauri, 32, who joined the Rome club from Udinese in 2006 and has 11 caps for Italy, made 16 league appearances last season as Lazio finished fourth in Serie A was held along with former Genoa midfielder Omar Milanetto, 36, signed for Serie B side Padova last summer after five years at Genoa and made 15 starts last season. police said.

They were one of 19 people implicated in the affair as police swooped on a number of addresses up and down the country, according to the Ansa news agency

Juventus coach Antonio Conte, who just led the club to the Serie A title in his first season in charge, is among those being questioned by police.
Officers also visited Italy's pre-Euro 2012 training camp to question left-back Domenico Criscito, 25, a former Genoa and Juventus defender, is now at Zenit St Petersburg in Russia and has 19 caps for Italy
Police are searching more than 30 homes, including those of players, trainers and administrators of clubs in Serie A, Serie B and lower divisions.
Five people were also arrested in Hungary on suspicion of being part of an illegal international betting ring.
Monday's operation was part of a wider investigation which has already seen a number of arrests of current and former Italian players. In June last year, the Interior Ministry set up a special match-fixing task force in response to a number of high-profile cases.
Former Atalanta captain and Italy midfielder Cristiano Doni was banned for three-and-a-half years in August  for his part in the 'Calcioscommesse' scandal involving Serie B matches last season. He was also arrested in December 2011 over match-fixing and betting allegations.
Atalanta, promoted from Serie B, were deducted six points in the top flight this season as a result of the scandal.
Former Lazio and Italy striker Giuseppe Signori was banned for five years and 15 other players were banned for between one and five years for their parts.
